The death occurred peacefully, at the Prince Edward Home, Charlottetown, on Thursday, August 26, 2021, of Louise Gallant (nee Peters), wife of the late Elmer Gallant, formerly of Hunter River, age 85.

She was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Bessie (Doucette) Peters.

Louise was the beloved mother of Paul Gallant (Lisa) and Scott Gallant (Gwen Bowness); and loving grandmother of Bria and Emily. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Bertha Cheverie (Omer, deceased) and Elsie Pineau (Alban); brother-in-law, Donald DeRoche (Eileen, deceased); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Besides her husband, Elmer, and her parents, Gilbert and Bessie, Louise was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Chris Gallant and Peter Gallant.

Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. A private funeral service will take place at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, South Rustico, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. The service will be live streamed on the Central Queen’s Funeral Home Facebook page. The funeral for Louise Gallant, wife of the late Elmer Gallant, was held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Rustico. The celebrant for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Arulraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by her family. The first reading, from Wisdom, was addressed by Joan Bernard. The second reading, from Romans, was addressed Ann Andrews. The prayers of the faithful were led by Debbie Cheverie. The cross bearer was Della Cormier. The altar server was Joseph Gallant, who also assisted Father Raj as a Eucharistic minister. The music was provided by the church choir, with Sr. Phyllis Gallant as organist and Phyllis Arsenault as song leader. The hymns were: entrance, “Amazing Grace”; psalm, “The Lord’s My Shepherd”; gospel acclamation, “Celtic Alleluia”; offertory, “The Summons”; communion, “Here I Am, Lord”; post-communion, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”; commendation, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessional, “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary pallbearers were Ed and Carol Munro, Etta Ellis and Joan Bernard. Staff of the late Dr. Kent Ellis formed an honour guard outside of the church. Pallbearers were Ed Pineau, Chris DeRoche, John MacDonald, Lowell Croken, Ed Munro and Floyd Ford. Flower bearers were her granddaughters, Bria and Emily Gallant. Interment took place in the church cemetery, where Father Raj led the committal service.
