The death occurred peacefully at his home, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, of Orville Smith, of New Glasgow, age 79.

Orville was the loving father of Douglas (Marilyn); and brother of Myrna and Norman (Joanne).

He will also be remembered by nephew, Carson Smith and his wife, Bracken, who shared a special bond with Orville; as well a numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Orville was predeceased by his parents, Richard B. and Ada (Stead) Smith.

Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation prior to the service at 1:30 p.m.

The funeral for Orville Smith was held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Central Queen’s Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. The service was conducted by Reverend Greg Davis, who offered prayer and words of comfort in his message. Scripture readings included readings from Ecclesiastes 3, read by Bracken Smith; and Psalm 23 and John 14, read by Rev. Davis. Heartfelt words of remembrance were shared by Myrna Smith/Morton, John Richard Morton, and an audio recording was sent from Heather Morton. The organist was Christine Belanger. The hymns included: “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow”, sung by Janet Stead and Nancy Rackham, “In the Quiet Curve of the Evening”, sung by Janet Stead and Nancy Rackham, and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Pallbearers Roland Smith, Carson Smith, Norman Smith, John Morton, Doug Oldenburg and Donald Stead. Interment will take place at a later date in the New Glasgow Cemetery.
