The death occurred in Bownmanville, Ontario, on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, of Tom McAleer, husband of the late Leona (Doiron) McAleer, of Bowmanville, Ontario, aged 85.

He was the loving father of Donna McAleer -Smith (Doug), and Gary (Jayne); grandfather of Randy (Danielle) and James; and great-grandfather of Emmett and Willa.

He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Mary Dunn, Florence Larkin (Eugene), Jimmy (Callie) and Anne Pratt (Jim); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife Leona, Tom was predeceased by his parents, Gavin and Penzie (Reid) McAleer; brother-in-law, Willy Dunn; and nephew, Gary Dunn.

Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow. No visitation by personal request. The funeral will be held at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Hope River, on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in the church cemetery. The funeral will be recorded and available for viewing on the Central Queen’s Funeral Home Facebook Page following the service.

The funeral for Thomas McAleer was held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Hope River. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Albin Arsenault, who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The Altar servers were Jacinta Doiron Eugene Larkin and Leonard Peters. The first reading, from Ecclesiastes 3, was addressed by James Callaghan. The second reading, Romans 6, was addressed by Corey Abbott. Prayer of the faithful were led by Reverend Arsenault. The music was provided by the church choir, with Sr. Phyllis Gallant, CND, as organist. The hymns were entrance, “Be Not Afraid”; responsorial psalm, “Psalm of the Good Shepherd” with Jimmy McAleer as Cantor; gospel acclamation, “Celtic Alleluia”, with Jimmy McAleer as Cantor; offertory, “Amazing Grace”; communion, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”, sung by Tammy Peters and Shannon Abbott; commendation, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessional, “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Randy McAleer, Gavin McAleer, James Smith, Terry Larkin, Christopher McAleer, and David Dunn. Interment took place in the Church Cemetery where Reverend Arsenault conducted the committal service.
